The Day After

Yesterday I received several text messages from our neighbors.  One heard I was sick and wanted to bring me something she got for me.  She's my Visiting Teacher.  (What is a Visiting Teacher???  A Mormon Visiting Teacher is a woman assigned to watch over and help another woman in her ward.  Two woman are assigned to each woman.  They contact her at least once a month and encourage her efforts as a wife, mother, and member of the church.) I was resting and trying to take a nap when she sent me the message so I missed it.  She ended up dropping off a bag of goodies while I was asleep.  My friend went all out!  She got me anti-bacterial wipes, anti-bacterial hand sanitizer, a bottle of sprite, some chocolate covered peanuts, a pumpkin room scent, and a pair of really cute earrings.  Everything came in this adorable Halloween bag.  Wow!  I can't believe she went to all that trouble for me.  She's such a sweetheart.  If I remember, I'll try to get Lexi to take a picture of it so I can post it later.  It was super cute.

Then my other neighbor also sent me a text message inviting all of us down to their house to hang out and watch a movie and pass out candy.  They had pulled out their projector and had it turned on to their garage door nice and big, and were watching movies outside with several other families.  I turned them down on their offer, simply because I'm not better yet and the cooler night air will not be good for me.  I didn't want to make this sickness any worse than it already is.  When I told Kevin about their offer he agreed that neither one of us needed to be out in the night air, and we both thought it was very nice of them to include us.  Lexi didn't even want to pass out candy for Halloween.   She just wanted a little candy for herself and she was a happy camper.  So, we stayed inside and didn't even pass out the candy we had.  Kevin had a little fun with Lexi and made her say, "trick or treat" every time she opened the container we put the candy in, just to give her the whole Halloween experience.  LOL!  Silly man.  Lexi just laughed at him.

As it turns out, we didn't have very many trick-or-treaters come down our street last night, which is strange.  Usually we get quite a few of them.  I think we didn't see as many of them simply because Halloween fell on a Monday this year.  Oh well.  I'm glad I stayed inside and rested on the couch and watched a movie.  I'm still not up for much lately.  I'm weak and it doesn't take much to wear me out.  I guess the doctor wasn't kidding when he said it's going to take a while to get over this stuff.  I'm trying to be patient, as I hack and cough.

One thing that has really been a blessing through this whole illness stuff has been my husband.  He has been awesome.  Sure, he can't get in the car and run to the pharmacy to pick up my medications, but he knows how to make sure I do not try to over do it.  He has made sure my kids are helping out with things while I am fighting this "whatever it is" and I really do appreciate that.  He supports me in all that I do.  We are a team.  I have to say, that is the one thing that has become stronger since his SCI, our relationship together.  There aren't many decisions we don't make together these days.  We are closer together and as a primary family now more than ever.  Even though this was something we never would have wished to have happen to Kevin, there have been some incredible blessings along the way.  For those things, I am most grateful for.  So you see, even when things seem to be at their worst, miracles do happen every single day during some of your hardest moments.  You just have to pay close attention so as not to miss them.  Believe me, you don't want to miss them because they are incredible!  Enough said.

We have some new photos of Elder Schmidt from a zone conference about a week ago.  Here are a couple photos from that....

I can't believe we will get to talk to Curtis in a couple months.  Then he will be home shortly after that.  Time has flown by!  We are hoping to be able to take a family vacation eventually.  We want to take Danielle and Chance with us as well, but we will see how everyone's schedule works out when the time comes.  We would love to be able to do it soon, but realistically it may not happen until after the beginning of the year.  When we talked to Lexi about some options she didn't want to go to Disneyland at all.  I was shocked!  Instead she wants to go to Chicago to go see the Broadway play Hamilton or take the church history tour.  That surprised me.  I asked her if she would go to Disney World and she said she would go there, but Disneyland was just another amusement park.  Obviously she has not idea what she is talking about.  Our plans to do something as a family are still up in the air.  There are several things that need to happen before we ever take a trip, but it's fun to tentatively plan one.  Kevin wants to go back to the Bay area to spend some time there again.  He served his mission in the Bay Area and he wants to go see a few places again.  His Mission President use to be the Temple President of the Nauvoo Temple and he invited the entire mission to come for a mission conference several years back.  We missed that opportunity.  We still would LOVE to go see that Temple and all the other church history sites back east.  So, we might end up taking a couple trips.  That is, as soon as Kevin gets in to see his pain specialist again.  It's fun to plan and think about some of these places.  All in all, we need to do something fun as a family together, even if it turns out to just be a trip to California.  It will be good.

Thanks for stopping by.  I can't believe it's November already!  I'm hoping this sickness goes away so I can start getting ready for our Thanksgiving plans.  I'm sure if I'm not completely back to normal my family will help out.  I love this time of year!  Take care my friends and we will talk again soon.
