Monday and a few favorite things

Two Things I am Grateful For:

1) Netflix, Hulu, and Kyle's hard drive full of movies.  It's 2 a.m. and I can't sleep for some odd reason.  Thank goodness these things are available.  I just got done watching Meet the Mormon's.  Kevin told me it was good...he watched it a few weeks ago, but I couldn't bring myself to watch it.  I just knee I would cry and I really didn't want the flood gates to open.  If you know what I mean.  One they start, sometimes it's hard to get them to stop.  It's hard to find something wholesome and NOT rated R to watch even on Netflix or Hulu.  So, I opted for Meet the Mormon's.  I didn't cry as much as I thought I would until the last story about the Mom with a son going on a mission.  Her story did it to me.  Thankfully the flood gates did not rage on for too long.  As I still wipe the tears from my cheek. ~smile~smile~

2) My Heavenly Father and all that He has blessed me with.  I am feeling especially blessed, in so many ways, right at this moment.
Goals for the Day:

1) Get Kevin up and walking a little bit first thing in the morning.
2) Change Kevin's wound dressings.  He has two surgical wounds.  Who knew there would be two.
3) Help Kyle with getting his Police Department Application notarized at the bank.
4) Get Lexi to her Young Women's Leader's home for some Girl bonding and some indexing.
5) Get Kevin a sponge bath
6) Call the doctor's offices to set-up post-op appointments.
7) Dishes in between taking care of Kevin
8) Laundry in between taking care of Kevin
9) Afternoon, early evening short walk for Kevin
10) Paint my project IF (big if) I get a chance.

From the Camera:

I can't wait for perky Kevin to return.  This is Kyle in the photo, but this is one of Kevin's happy places.  The pool was the one place he could get some relief.

From the Heart:

Acts of Kindness.  Will you be ready to help another today?

From the Spirit:
One of the great lessons that each of us needs to learn is to ask. Why does the Lord want us to pray to Him and to ask? Because that is how revelation is received.
When I am faced with a very difficult matter, this is how I try to understand what to do. I fast. I pray to find and understand scriptures that will be helpful. That process is cyclical. I start reading a passage of scripture; I ponder what the verse means and pray for inspiration. I then ponder and pray to know if I have captured all the Lord wants me to do. Often more impressions come with increased understanding of doctrine. I have found that pattern to be a good way to learn from the scriptures.
There are some practical principles that enhance revelation. First, yielding to emotions such as anger or hurt or defensiveness will drive away the Holy Ghost. Those emotions must be eliminated, or our chance for receiving revelation is slight.
Another principle is to be cautious with humor. Loud, inappropriate laughter will offend the Spirit. A good sense of humor helps revelation; loud laughter does not. A sense of humor is an escape valve for the pressures of life.
Another enemy to revelation comes from exaggeration or loudness in what is stated. Careful, quiet speech will favor the receipt of revelation.
On the other hand, spiritual communication can be enhanced by good health practices. Exercise, reasonable amounts of sleep, and good eating habits increase our capacity to receive and understand revelation. We will live for our appointed life span. However, we can improve both the quality of our service and our well-being by making careful, appropriate choices.
It is important that our daily activities do not distract us from listening to the Spirit.
Revelation can also be given in a dream when there is an almost imperceptible transition from sleep to wakefulness. If you strive to capture the content immediately, you can record great detail, but otherwise it fades rapidly. Inspired communication in the night is generally accompanied by a sacred feeling for the entire experience. The Lord uses individuals for whom we have great respect to teach us truths in a dream because we trust them and will listen to their counsel. It is the Lord doing the teaching through the Holy Ghost. However, He may in a dream make it both easier to understand and more likely to touch our hearts by teaching us through someone we love and respect.

From the Schmidt's:

Let's try something different today.
Here are a few of my favorite things....

Have you had the chance to try a Honey crisp apple yet?  Oh my heavens!  They are so good.  No, really, if you are going to sit and eat an apple Honey crisp is the apple for you.  It's sweet and tart, never bitter like a tart Granny Smith can be at times.  If I am craving something sweep when I am trying to watch what I eat, this apple does the trick every time, AND it's full of fiber too.  Love it!  In fact, with this diet I am on I can have apples, which is a good thing.  So, give them a try.  I promise you will love them!

Can I just tell you that this is such a comfortable shoe and that I have a few pairs in different colors and love them!!!  They are, without a doubt, my favorite summer shoe.  They are made by Madeline and are called Adonis Wedge.  And, they are priced right too, especially with coupon codes!  The top is stretchy and that is my favorite part.  They keep my food in place and snug all day long.  I have gotten all of mine on the Kohl's website with Kohl's cash or coupons, so they were super affordable!  Love it!
I just wish I could wear them more often, but with my knee the way it is, I have to limit my time in these shoes.  These are also the shoes I was wearing when I fell and injured my knee more.  I still love them and still wear them to church, and probably will wear them more when my knee gets better!

Serta® Perfect Sleeper® Hampton Bay Super Pillowtop Queen Mattress at Big Lots.

Our King Size bed!  Oh my gosh I absolutely LOVE it!
In fact, I am missing it right now.  I have given it up for Kevin so he can get as much rest as possible without me bothering him after his surgery.  I don't want to chance waking him up when I get up in the middle of the night.  Our mattress is so comfortable, how we ever survived without a king size bed I do not know.  We have never slept so well in our entire married lives.  This has been the best thing we ever bought.  The photo above is our exact mattress, but we have two twin boxsprings underneath.  I love that we got it for a great price too.  We got it for the a little more than the price you would pay for a very nice twin mattress and boxspring.  Not a bad deal, right?  It certainly was a terrific deal, and we got it at Big Lots of all the places.  I couldn't believe it either.  Best purchase we have made in a very long time!
Image result for great value popcorn in the ba
If you have been reading my blog for very long then you know that I am a popcorn lover, just ask my kids.  Anytime I go to Walmart, or send my kids they have to come home with a bag or two of this.  I absolutely LOVE the Walmart brand in the bag.  Nothing fancy, just buttered popcorn.  I could eat this instead of any meal anytime.  It is my all time favorite!  Once in a while, I have to change things up and go for a caramel popcorn, but not very often.  I've tried a lot of pre-popped corn and this is the BEST!  Just so you know!  Get me a bag of popcorn, and I am a happy girl!  (except when I am on this diet.  No carbs for me right now!)

,
And, my last favorite is Mornings!  Yes, I am one of those weird people that love the early mornings.  I feel far more productive and like to get out and do whatever errands I have in the mornings.  Sometimes my day doesn't always work out that I get to do this, but when it does I am a happy girl!  I think I got started with early mornings because of my daily schedule with work and everything, and with kids in school.  I know, that sounds strange.  But, I enjoy getting up and having a little time to myself before everyone else gets up.  It sometimes is the only time that I can enjoy some "me time."  I thought once they were grown, that I might sleep in, and I do get to sleep in once in a while.  I am still a night owl at times too.  Most days I am up early.  I guess it just depends on your routine and habits.  Know what I mean?

Have a Wonderful Day!
Take care my friends, and we will talk again soon.
From the Missionary:
Unique ways the missionaries of the New York, New York North Mission use to share their message.

The Plan of Salvation Hits the Streets!

Usually, when you are teaching the plan of Salvation, it's good to have a diagram of what it looks like.
Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words...
How many words is this worth?
You see a lot of graffiti in New York... but not quite like this!
This shares an uplifting message that hits home for all of us...
 Many people came with questions...
 We came with answers (:
Here in New York, many people feel as if they are alone...
But, we are all brothers and sisters...
And we want everyone to know it!

We invite all to share it, and we invite all to learn about our Heavenly Father's wonderful plan for us!

If you have any questions, please visit Mormon.org or contact us (: We would love to hear from you!

Elder Aaron Potter, and Elder Brad Witbeck, missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, created a project in Union Square, New York, where they preached through chalk art. Both missionaries expressed their gratitude for being involved.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — It wasn't their first project in Union Square, but for Elder Brad Witbeck of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, and Elder Aaron Potter of Idaho Falls, Idaho, last Friday was a completely new experience.
Both Elder Witbeck and Elder Potter are serving as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New York New York North Mission under President Tom Morgan. Both are close to the end of their two-year service and are in leadership positions. After they received a suggestion from a member of their local congregation assigned to help the missionaries, they invited several other missionaries to join them in preaching in a unique way.
"We came together for a brainstorm session, and we talked about different ideas that we could do," Elder Potter said about their meeting with the ward member. "He brought up that on his mission in Russia, they painted the plan of salvation on giant pieces of paper. And then from that, we decided we could do something similar, and that’s where the chalk-art idea came from."
The elders drew up their plans and distributed the idea to the other missionaries, deciding to illustrate each step in the plan of salvation. Days before the project was to take place, Elder Witbeck and Elder Potter scouted out different areas and concluded Union Square would work best.
"We made sure to talk to cops and make sure it was something we could do before we did it," Elder Witbeck said. "We were just looking forward to sharing the gospel in a way that people in New York probably hadn't seen too often. We thought it would be pretty refreshing."
A few days before, the two elders felt impressed to attend an institute class and encourage the young single adult members to participate in the chalk event. Lara Mayfield was one of many who decided to attend, and because of her idea to film the event on her iPhone Elder Witbeck and Elder Potter have been able to share their activity with thousands.
"It was actually while I was on my way there, in the subway, when I had this thought, 'You know what would be cool ...' because I've put together little videos like that before," Mayfield said. "I just started filming. It still blows my mind, the way technology has progressed to the point that I could just have this random idea and throw together a video that has ended up being seen by thousands of people with what I had on hand."
After helping to draw some of the artwork, Mayfield began filming. Elder and sister missionaries spoke with those who passed by and showed interest in the project.
"There were a lot of people stopping and staring, and that brought up an opportunity for us to go up to them," Elder Potter said. "I think anyone walking through or around that area definitely noticed it because it was really large, especially the drawing of the Earth. ... We just had a lot of really great opportunities to teach people."
From Mayfield's perspective, it was an easy way to attract interest from a large number of people, and because there were several missionaries present, they were able to talk to anyone who was interested.
"It was a good way for the missionaries to casually strike up a conversation, and the people walking across Union Square aren't exactly in a hurry. ... I saw some really awesome discussions about the Book of Mormon and the plan of salvation," Mayfield said.
Although they hadn't planned to document the experience, the video has turned out to be the most effective missionary tool of all. It was posted to YouTube on Oct. 19 and has had more than 33,000 views as of Thursday afternoon, along with more than 14,000 views on Elder Potter and Elder Witbeck's blog.
"Not only was there the influence of their message and of their individual offering as a missionary there at Union Square, but now the idea and the excitement and enthusiasm will be taken from their efforts by those who watch the video," President Morgan said.
"This idea that social media can influence people across the world is so awesome, and it's just our little zone in South Manhattan. ... Now thousands, literally thousands, of people have seen it, felt the Spirit from it and maybe taken some courage from it, maybe even go copy that idea — why not? It's incredible!"
As the video continues to gain momentum, the missionaries in South Manhattan have felt a growing sense of excitement.
"We definitely think it's more successful than we ever thought it would be," Elder Witbeck said. "It's been amazing the number of views we've been able to have."
The New York New York North Mission recently became an online proselytizing mission, allowing missionaries to engage with investigators online. In fact, it was only about a week ago that Elder Witbeck and Elder Potter created their blog. Although they have reached thousands of people with their video already, the elders agreed that they have a lot to learn about how to share the gospel online.
"It is a lot different than what we've done in the past," Elder Potter said. "I think I speak for both of us when I say we've knocked a lot of doors on our mission. But we've been able to connect with more people than we've been able to talk to throughout our entire missions, just over the Internet and being able to share the gospel with them through that."
President Morgan expressed his appreciation for all involved and for the fact that the local LDS Church members played a large role in the missionaries' success.
"It's just this awesome experience of members and missionaries coming completely together in doing the work of salvation," President Morgan said. "I just think that the component of members and missionaries working together, the idea and the execution ... I think there is a lot of power in that component."
As for Mayfield, she was grateful to have had the opportunity to play a role in something that can influence so many.
"Everything came together with the right people being in the right place at the right time," Mayfield said. "There are so many ways to contribute to the work of salvation. I'm not really the bring-all-my-friends-to-church, bear-testimony-on-the-subway type of member missionary; it's just not my personal forte. But I let what I can do carry me into this whole other sphere of missionary work that I'd never even thought of, just by doing what I enjoy and what I am good at."
Elder Witbeck and Elder Potter consider the attention and excitement their project has received with the help of Mayfield's video a blessing.
"The hand of God really does a lot more than we can," Elder Witbeck said. "If we can do everything we can on our own, God will help us magnify the things that we've done. I don't think there's ever really a way that we saw this coming."
