Saturday is a Special Day

Two things I am Grateful For:
1)  My Husband.  I know I said this the other day, but he is something I find reasons to be grateful for everyday.  He is totally a-MAZ-ing!  I love that man!

2)  My children!  They are amazing too!

From the Heart:
In keeping with out theme of random acts of kindness here is another idea....
Make an effort to be a genuine person. When you say you will do something, do it. When you ask someone how they are doing, wait for them to answer and really listen to them.  Be a genuine friend, spouse, brother, sister, daughter, son, co-worker, boss, etc.  Work hard to be comfortable in your own skin and a genuine love for others will follow.

From the Kitchen:
Santa Hat Party Mix

Santa Hats
  • Bugles ( I used Caramel Bugles, as they were slightly sturdier)
  • Red Melting disks
  • Mini marshmallows
  • White sprinkles (I used nonpareils)
Snack Mix
  • 3 cups mini pretzels
  • ½ cup craisins
  • 1 cup salted dry roasted peanuts
  • 2 cups Rice Chex
  • 2 cups holiday colored M&M’s
  • 8 oz. white chocolate for melting
  • Return to baking sheet to allow to dry.
  • When chocolate is set, sprinkle M&M’s and Bugle Santa Hats over the mix.
  • Transfer to big bowl to serve.
Santa Hats
  1. Melt the candy melts, along with a tablespoon of shortening (to help thin the melted candy), in 30 second intervals on half power in your microwave until melted.
  2. Immediately start dipping.
  3. Let them set up for 10 minutes or so on parchment or wax paper.
  4. When they are set, remelt the red candy disk (if necessary) and dip just the bottoms (the large part of the Bugle) into the white sprinkles.
  5. Then flip it over and dip the top in the melted candy and press a mini marshmallow on top.
  6. Let dry on wax paper.
  7. Spread all your ingredients, EXCEPT M&M’s, out on a baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.
  8. Melt your white chocolate according to package directions and drizzle over the pretzel mix.
  9. Transfer into a large bowl and coat mix with chocolate.

From the Spirit
Quoted by Thomas Monson, 2012

I am the Christmas Spirit—
I enter the home of poverty, causing pale faced children to open their eyes wide, in pleased wonder.
I cause the miser’s clutched hand to relax and thus paint a bright spot on his soul.
I cause the aged to renew their youth and to laugh in the old glad way.
I keep romance alive in the heart of childhood, and brighten sleep with dreams woven of magic.
I cause eager feet to climb dark stairways with filled baskets, leaving behind hearts amazed at the goodness of the world.
I cause the prodigal to pause a moment on his wild, wasteful way and send to anxious love some little token that releases glad tears—tears which wash away the hard lines of sorrow.
I enter dark prison cells, reminding scarred manhood of what might have been and pointing forward to good days yet to be.
I come softly into the still, white home of pain, and lips that are too weak to speak just tremble in silent, eloquent gratitude.
In a thousand ways, I cause the weary world to look up into the face of God, and for a little moment forget the things that are small and wretched.
I am the Christmas Spirit.

From the Schmidt's:
Friday was a ROUGH day all around for all 6 of us, in more ways that we care to admit, and in ways we never dreamed of.  That's about all I care to say about yesterday.  The residuals of the day will keep on playing out for several days to come that I a positive of.  The "gift" that keeps on giving.  So frustrating!  Enough about that.
This morning I ran one errand.  That's about all I am good for.  That errand would have waited, but it had to be done.  Thank goodness it was super quick!  The boys are putting up the Christmas lights.  Yeah!  After that I wanted to be cleaning.  Nothing too crazy.  A few dishes, some straightening up, a little dusting, a little sweeping and vacuuming.....but, I don't feel up to it.  Still not feeling well.

I wish I could say we had more exciting things on the list to do today, but we really don't.  We might go to the boutique Danielle has a booth at today, but we will see.  The rest of the day we will just take it one step at a time and go with the flow.
