This and That

Well, folks, 11 weeks from today is Christmas Eve!  Yea, can you believe that?  I can't even begin to think about Christmas with Kevin down still in recovery and then some from his back surgery, Curtis is getting ready for his mission, Kyle getting married in 3 1/2 weeks, AND Danielle announce to me today that she has a boyfriend.  Lexi is just doing the things that Lexi does.  Pretty soon she wants to start playing volleyball again.  I think she just has not known what to do with herself this first quarter of the school year without her volleyball.  I'm starting this post late this evening.

  Each year, at work, all the teams get their pictures taken together for the holidays.  We all send out Christmas cards to our clients and include the photo in the cards.  So, tomorrow our team will have our holiday photos taken.  Not something I look forward to, but it really doesn't hurt much and it doesn't last that long to really get worked up about it.  The dress for these photos is always Business.  So, I tried on my pantsuit and it doesn't fit.  So, I had no choice but to go hunt for something appropriate to wear tomorrow.  I just planned on wearing a nice pair of black pants, a nice blouse, and a jacket, with my higher black shoes.  Nothing too crazy.  Hopefully that will be nice enough, and Christmasy too.  I have a green blouse I am wearing that is cut out to look like lace, my black pants and my black jacket, oh, and my black shoes.  Of course BLACK is the main color.  I would absolutely LOVE IT if the backdrop was a little different this year turned out to be black too.  Then I could be a floating head.  LOL!  I seriously doubt this will happen, but it was fun to think about.  I actually thought it would be more fun for all of us to wear out Halloween Costumes instead of Business attire since Halloween is right around the corner.  Doesn't that sound like fun?  We could all be ghosts or something.  My boss shot that down as soon as the words came out of my mouth today.  Darn it!  Oh well.  Let's move on since I need to get to bed.

1. What's your favorite time of day? Why?
I like to think it's early in the morning, or at least it use to be.  Now it seems to be late at night.  My bodies internal clock has shifted a bit since Kevin had his surgery.  I still stay up way too late, but then still manage to get up around 5 a.m. every morning.  When I stay up super late those are the days you will find me taking a little cat nap in my car during my lunch break too.  Somehow I have got to switch this around and quick!   I use to wake right up and begin my day.  I use to be more productive in the mornings and found that by mid-morning I would pretty much have all of my work done at work.  Sometimes even at home.  Then I would work on my continual "to do" list at work.  -chuckle-  And, I was in bed between 10-10:30 because I wear down as the day went by.  Not so much anymore.  Now I cat nap in the car at lunch, I have been know to even cat nap in the car while waiting for Curtis to get done with work, I even nap as soon as I come in from work.  All because I just cannot get myself to go to sleep until around 2-2:30 a.m. just to wake up again at 5 a.m.  Crazy isn't it?  My internal clock needs to be reset and fast!

2. Waffle iron, toaster, coffee maker, mixer, blender...which small appliance would you say most needs replacing in your house? Oh, no doubt about it, the waffle iron!.... and I intend to do something about that just as soon as we get the chance and a little extra money.  We LOVE homemade waffles around here.  Especially the Belgian kind.  :)    I have always thought that it didn't matter what kind of waffle maker you use, but I was so wrong!  When I tried the Belgian waffle maker that flips the waffle as you lock it into place to cook, I could not believe it!  They are awesome!  Ours died several months ago and things just haven't been the same around here since.  We miss our waffle maker!

  3. It's National Grouch Day (October 15)...what's something that makes you feel grouchy?When I get overly tired and keep trying to push myself it often results in my being grouchy.  I'm still blessed with a good bit of energy but if I'm burning the candle at both ends, it will eventually catch up with me.  I try not to let that happen too often. ~smile~  {Remember the cat naps.}

4. Ever been to Canada? Is that a country you'd like to visit? According to Trip Advisor, the top ten best destinations in Canada are-Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Victoria, Calgary, Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls, Whistler, and Halifax. Which city would you most like to see?
No!!!  I have NEVER been to Canada.  Sure I wouldn't mind visiting sometime.  I there are several places in Canada I would like to see.  Calgary Alberta, Niagara Falls, Vancouver, just to name a few.  My parents grew up in Michigan so Canada was right there, and if my memory serves me, they took a trip or two to Canada.  I know Niagara Falls at least.  :)
5. What was your favorite food (or one of your favorites) when you were a child? Is that still a favorite?
I think I liked fairly simple things as a kid.  I use to take a slice of bread and put mustard all over it and eat it like an open face sandwich when I was about 4.  I did that off and on until probably 4th grade.  Now, Oh no!  You would not catch me eating a slice of bread with just mustard on it anymore.  I still like mustard a lot, but I don't do the slice of bread and mustard thing anymore.

  6. Do you cry easily?
Yes, but perhaps not as much in recent years, but I've always been brought to tears easily.  And, it can be for happiness as well as sadness.

7. Have you started your (gasp!) Christmas shopping? If so when, and how much? If not, when will you even begin thinking about it?
NO!  Are you kidding??  I always want to start early, but it never happens.  Maybe that will be something we can start doing after all the kids are out of the home.  I know, if we haven't established that habit now, it most likely will not be a habit down the road either, right?  Well, we can and will establish new habits after the kids leave home.  Just watch us.  :)

  8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Do you watch reality T.V or a lot of sports on a regular basis?  My husband does.  If there is anything they keep score of, then he is all in and watching.  I have to beg the man to watch something with a plot.  Sad, but very true.  BUT, right now we are not complaining about the small things.  His happiness and comfort is just not worth it.  He finally got a call from the imaging center today.  They said they are still waiting for the doctor to give the insurance the information they need to authorize the MRI.  As soon as the MRI is done the pain specialist and the surgeon will have a little Pow-Wow and decide what to do next.  In the mean time Kevin is in a lot of pain.  I mentioned that the medical assistant for the pain specialist did not calculate enough of the medicine to cover the increase in the dose, right??.  Believe me, Kevin will be calling the second their office opens again on Monday.  That is, if he doesn't fall asleep by then from sheer exhaustion.  He is so tired.  He can't sleep, He won't eat because his stomach gets so upset, and he is very irritable right now.  I just hope my kids are old enough and smart enough to know their dad is really trying to hold it together so they do not see that side of this.  Once in a while he can't control it. He is going to be in quite a rough spot come Monday, that is for sure.  EEK!  All I have to say is I hope the doctor's office is able to get him what he needs right away and they do not give him any trouble.  I got a text from Kevin today at work that about broke my heart.  He is really about at his wits end right now.  In pain, lack of sleep, and no one will answer his phone calls.  It's not good.  I don't know what to do for him.  Go to the ER.  Not go to the ER.  We are going to end up there soon, I'm sure.  It is inevitable at this point.  No fun!  Thank Heavens for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Pandora.  These are the things that have keep Kevin entertained while he tries to get his mind off of the pain.  I love technology, don't you?  Even when things are rough, we can still see all the many wonderful blessings we have received.  Sure, I have to help Kevin see them once in  a while.  He has done the same for me in the past when I needed it too.  That's just how we role.  There is usually one of us to keep the other one grounded when we really need it.  I call it my saving grace.  :)

My mother-in-law did not get out of the hospital today as she expected.  Last night when we went up to the hospital to see her she still had her IV with antibiotics running and the drainage tube was still in her back.  So, we knew she would not go home todaymm.  They usually get you to medicine by mouth as soon as possible after that surgery, the catheter removed, then the IV's come off.  (She has two.  One in each arm right now.  Which is no fun having both arms messed up at the same time)  Then they take out the drainage tube when there is less than 100cc's of fluid coming out of the incision, but not before.  They want to make sure the incision will heal well, and that drainage tube is key to a better recovery.  If they didn't have the drainage tube the pain level would be more intense and her back would be hot.  So, tomorrow is the day. Curtis and Kyle will both go up to the hospital to pick her up and get her settled at home.  She has decided against going to an extended care facility.  I think because its too much like a nursing home.  So, home health will be stopping in every couple of days to check on her and do some physical therapy with her.  During that  time Curtis will stay with her to help her manuver around the house with her animals.  That is going to be the trick...getting around and not falling with those darn animals under foot.  Hopefully they can come up with some kind of work around so she doesn't fall.  That would not be good.  I offered to go over and help her get in and out of the shower if she wants me to.  I know having someone other than a spouse in the bathroom with you is not always fun.  So, the offer is there.  This is going to be a rough couple of weeks for her until she gets to he point that she can handle herself a little bit.   It's hard to watch.  She is all alone.  No children living at home and no spouse to help her through all of this.  I don't know how she is going to do it.  Thank goodness Curtis can be there right now.
